Mr. Olympia 2020 Winners, Results, and Pro Analysis

The 2020 Mr. Olympia was one for the history books. Mamdouh Elssbiay, better known as ā€œBig Ramyā€ was the dominating winner of this yearā€™s Mr. Olympia. Ramy defeated not only the reigning Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry but also 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath in winning the title.

Most experts in the sport were predicting an easy victory for Heath who would have tied the record with eight wins if he would have been declared the winner this year.

In the Classic Physique category, it was a decisive victory for the returning champ Chris Bumstead. Chris made great improvements to his already impressive physique and he soundly defeated his rival, 2x Classic Physique Olympia champ Breon Ansley, who dropped down to third place this year.

2020 Classic Physique Olympia

5th Place ā€“ Bryan Jones ā€“ $2000

Bryan is new, young competitor on the Classic Physique scene and he has incredible potential. Bryan is very tall with a small waist, long muscle bellies and great leg development. He won the Chicago Pro this year and served notice that he would be a top contender in the Classic Physique division.

Bryan Jones Olympia 2020

Bryan could have been tighter at this contest but once he combines the sharp conditioning with his great structure and size, he is going to be a force to reckon with.

4th Place ā€“ Alex Cambronero ā€“  $3000

Alex has a great physique for the Classic Physique division and he proved it this year by winning the 2020 Arnold Classic. He has a great V taper with a tiny 27-inch waist and he is easily able to defeat bigger competitors because of his great aesthetics.

Alex Cambronero Olympia 2020

Alex took a strong fourth place at his yearā€™s Classic Physique Olympia, moving up from sixth the year before. In addition to his excellent aesthetics, Alex is always in top condition and he displays great separation and definition in his physique

3rd Place ā€“ Breon Ansley ā€“ $5,000

As a 2x Classic Physique Olympia champion, Breon had to be very disappointed dropping down to third place at the 2020 Classic Physique Olympia. After losing the title to Bumstead the previous year, Breon trained very hard to make improvements to his physique and get his title back. He was in excellent shape displaying more thickness with good definition and conditioning.

Breon Ansley Olympia 2020

Breon was looking forward to the rematch with Chris Bumstead and they were placed next to each other during the comparison rounds in the prejudging. The contrast in the physiques was clearly evident with Bumstead being taller and wider and Breon showing off his thickness and muscularity.

However, Bumstead brought up his previous weak point (back thickness) and he was able to match Breon on this pose. The result was a decisive victory for Bumstead with Breon dropping down to the third place position. Breon is promising to train hard for another year and come back next year again to try to win the title back.

2nd Place ā€“ Terrence Ruffin ā€“ $10,000

Terrence is one of the most promising athletes in the Classic Physique division. He only placed ninth at the 2018 Classic Physique Olympia so he took off the following year to add more quality muscle to his physique. The time off of the competition circuit really helped his physique as Terrence moved up to second place this year at the Arnold Classic and then took a runner-up position at the 2020 Classic Physique Olympia.

Terrence Ruffin Olympia 2020

Terrence is one of the best posers in the sport, combining fluid transitions with artistic poses and dramatic music. His routine didnā€™t disappoint this year and it helped him to move into second place at the Classic Physique Olympia. Terrence, like Bumstead, is also a young competitor and he has a great future in the sport as he continues to improve his physique and add quality muscle to his frame.

1st Place ā€“ Chris Bumstead ā€“ $30,000

Bumstead was the returning champ, having defeated 2x Classic Physique Olympia champion Breon Ansley by one thin point in 2019. Chris and Breon have dramatically different physiques. Chris is much taller and wider while Breon is thicker and more compact. This year, Chris made great improvements to his physique, bringing up the thickness in his back and coming in very ripped and conditioned.

Chris Bumstead Olympia 2020

Chris displays a very classic look with his tall and wide structure and aesthetically pleasing physique. He has great leg development displaying excellent size and separation and has some incredible poses like his front lat spread and vacuum shot.

Because the Classic Physique division is governed by height and weight restrictions, Chris still has room to grow. He can add another ten pounds of muscle to his frame and still be within the limit so the best is ahead for the young Chris Bumstead who should be a dominating force in this division for a long time to come.

2020 Mr. Olympia Main Event

5th Place ā€“ William Bonac ā€“ $40,000

William is one of the most consistent and best pro bodybuilders on the planet. He won the Arnold Classic earlier this year after taking a close second place to Brandon Curry at last yearā€™s Mr. Olympia contest. William is shorter in height than most of the competition but he packs his frame with dense, thick muscle that allows him to place high and win contests.

William Bonac Olympia 2020

Bonac was improved from last year but the tough competition at this yearā€™s Mr. Olympia contest had him dropping down to fifth place. His legs were better this year than in 2019 and he was in his normal hard condition. William will be back again with his excellent physique next year to improve his placing.

4th Place ā€“ Hadi Choopan -$45,000

Hadi was the breakout star in last yearā€™s Mr. Olympia, taking an impressive third place and defeating some of the biggest names in bodybuilding. Had returned to the stage this year even better displaying a very thick and muscular physique that was one of the hardest bodybuilders onstage.

Hadi Choopan Olympia 2020

Hadi was shorter than most of the other competitors but he has so much muscle mass, that he is not outsized in any way. He was 12 pounds lighter for the evening show and his improved conditioning made him look like he could place even higher, possibly defeating even Phil and Brandon. Hadi is a new dominating physique on the pro stage and he should be even better in next yearā€™s Mr. Olympia.

3rd Place ā€“ Phil Heath ā€“  $100,000

The most surprising development of the 2020 Mr. Olympia was Phil Heath dropping down to third place. As a 7x Mr. Olympia, He was expected to win his eighth Mr. Olympia and tie the record number of Olympia wins with Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman. After losing the title to Shawn Rhoden in 2018, most people thought Phil would easily win the title back when he decided to come back.

Phil Heath Olympia 2020

Unfortunately, Phil was not able to fix his stomach problem. For the last few years he competed in the Mr. Olympia, Phil has had problems displaying ripped abs and a tight waist. The judges overlooked this chink in his physical armor for a few years until Shawn Rhoden beat Phil in 2018 with his incredible ab development. When Phil came back this year, everyone was focused on seeing if Phil was able to fix his stomach problem.

Phil came in a little tighter this year in order to bring down his stomach but he still did not have the abdominal separation and definition that the judges wanted to see. In addition, Phil looked smaller than he had in the past and he didnā€™t display that crazy 3D muscle fullness that he was known for. This was very apparent when Phil was compared to the massive Big Ramy and an improved Brandon Curry.

Where will Phil Heath go from here? Now that Big Ramy is Mr. Olympia, it doesnā€™t seem possible to see Phil defeating him or Brandon, especially since he canā€™t seem to fix his stomach distention and lack of abdominal separation. Phil is now 41 years old and his best look seems to be in the past.

2nd Place ā€“ Brandon Curry ā€“ $150,000

Brandon returned to the Mr. Olympia stage as the reigning champ with a significantly improved physique. His fantastic upper body with his small waist and billowing lats and chest makes for an imposing physique onstage. He continues to bring up his leg development and he showed improved separation in his quads this year.

Brandon Curry Olympia 2020

During the comparisons, Brandon looked better in most of the poses in comparison to 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath. Most people thought this yearā€™s Mr. Olympia contest would come down to Phil and Brandon with most of the experts predicting Phil would come out on top. Brandon surprised a lot of people with his excellent shape and conditioning this year at the Mr. Olympia.

Unfortunately, not even an improved Mr. Olympia champion could defeat the dominating physique of Big Ramy this year. Ramy was just too wide and too big for anyone to beat because he was so hard and conditioned. Brandon was disappointed with his second place finish but he handled it like a true champion and he is sure to be back next year.

1st Place ā€“ Mamdouh Elssbiay (ā€œBig Ramy) ā€“ $400,000!

Big Ramy has been talked about as the next big thing in bodybuilding since he made his Mr. Olympia debut in 2013. Unfortunately, he has not been able to achieve the hardness and conditioning to match all the incredible muscle mass he brings to the stage. Time after time, the fans and judges have been disappointed with the physique that Ramy has brought to the stage.

This year was a different story. Ramy was scheduled to compete earlier in the year to qualify for the Mr. Olympia contest but he contracted the Covid-19 virus and had to skip that competition.

Mamdouh Elssbiay Olympia 2020

He was awarded a special invite to this yearā€™s Mr. Olympia contest and he showed up in the best shape of his life. He was so big and hard that he dominated the line-up, making the reigning champ Brandon Curry and 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath look small in comparison.

As the judges put the competitors through the mandatory poses in the prejudging, Ramy stood out with his super wide frame and incredible muscle mass. He held his poses longer than anyone else and the hardness and conditioning combined with all that size made him incredibly dominant in the line-up.Ā

The Day of the Finals

By the finals the next day, Big Ramy was brimming with confidence. He came out to rousing applause by the sold out auditorium and thrilled the fans with energetic posing routine that even included patches of air guitar interspersed with his shocking most muscular poses.

The audience loved it and they voted Ramy as the Fan Favorite of the contest. When Ramy was awarded the title of 2020 Mr. Olympia, he rammed a victorious fist into the air and the crowd stood on their feet and cheered their new champion!
